A design company in Panyu purchased 20 27-inch 4K monitors (a certain brand U27 series, unit price RMB 1680, total price RMB 33600) in August from a third-party seller on the e-commerce platform. When the goods arrived, the administrative lady counted the quantity and signed for it. Three days later, designers reported problems one after another: 3 units had bright spots, 2 units had intermittent flashing screens, and 1 unit had a dim upper left corner of the screen. Go to the seller and reply with one sentence:"It has been signed for more than 48 hours. Non-quality problems cannot be returned. Bright spots belong to the allowable scope of industry standards."
This dispute we help customers to deal with the final exchange of goods, but the process is very troublesome. The purpose of writing this article: to enable enterprises to purchase monitors in5 minutes before signingFind out these problems, and daily encounter display failure can distinguish which layer of the problem.
Diagnosis of Display Faults: Four-Layer Locating Method
There is a problem with the screen. The fault point may be at four levels. The troubleshooting order is from cheap to expensive:

The golden rule for judging screen problems: change a computer and connect the same monitor, the same symptoms = screen problems; symptoms disappear or change = line/graphics card/settings problems.This step can avoid 80% of misjudgments and avoid a white run after sales.
Bad dots, bright spots, light leakage: what is the industry standard
The seller said "industry standard allowable range" is true, but many people do not know the specific content. According to ISO 9241-307 (display defective pixel standard) divided into three levels:

The 27-inch 4K is 8.3 megapixels, which allows about 16 defective pixels by Class 2 conversion-so the seller's statement that "3 bright spots are normal" literally stands.But there are two key points:
- the location of that defective pixel is important.The one bright spot in the center of the screen has a much greater impact on design than the three in the corners. Most brand warranty policies have stricter standards for the "center area of the screen"(e.g., 0 bright spot in the center 1/3 area), which can be claimed.
- Corporate procurement can stipulate stricter standards in contracts.When purchasing in bulk through channels, clearly write "Delivery products must meet Class 1 or no bright spots in the central area of the screen, otherwise unconditional replacement", suppliers will usually accept-because they can do screening when shipping in bulk. E-commerce retail does not have this negotiation space, and can only rely on their own acceptance.
Three other confusing concepts:light leakage(IPS screen four corners in the pure black screen white, belongs to IPS technical characteristics, slightly acceptable, serious to affect viewing can apply for replacement);Stains/cloudiness(local uneven brightness under white picture, Mura defect, obvious quality problem);Crushing/Foreign Material Inside(Black spots or bright spots on the screen, transportation or assembly damage, 100% replaceable).
5 minutes before signing acceptance process (enterprise batch purchase must be done)
- a priori overwrap: If the outer box has dents, holes and secondary sealing tape marks, take photos on the spot and ask for unpacking inspection or direct rejection. 90% of the screen damage occurs in the transportation process, and the outer packaging is intact but the inner screen is rarely broken.
- Quantity and model check: Model suffix to see the whole (U2723QE and U2723QX are different panels), production date to see the box label, the same batch as far as possible to choose the production date close (color difference is smaller, multi-screen splicing obvious).
- Power on the spot and run the solid color test: With a laptop + a USB flash drive (save pure color test chart: all black, all white, red, green, blue, gray scale). All black to see bright spots and light leakage, all white to see dark spots, stains, yellow, red, green and blue to see color uniformity. 40 seconds per unit, 20 sets 15 minutes.
- Interface full test: DP, HDMI, USB-C (if any) connected once each, confirm that the picture can be normal and reach the nominal resolution and refresh rate. Only one interface is signed, and the other port is found to be broken.
- Record problems on the spot and ask for treatment: Take photos + record serial number + write "bright spot/flash screen exists on X station, waiting for replacement" on the receipt sheet, and then sign it.Do not sign "quantity correct, appearance intact"This sentence is legally equivalent to your confirmation that the product is qualified.
How did this case end up?
We helped the customer do three things: First, all 20 units were re-inspected with a solid color test chart and issued a test report with a photo and serial number (3 sets of bright spots are located in the central area of the screen, 2 sets of flash screens still exist after the line is changed, and the obvious darkening in the upper left corner of 1 set belongs to Mura defect); second, citing Article 24 of the Law on the Protection of Consumer Rights and Interests and the quality objection clause in the sales contract of the Civil Code, claiming that the flash screen and Mura are functional quality problems rather than "disputes over the number of bright spots"; Third, the official after-sales service of the brand shall be found for technical appraisal simultaneously (the brand party confirms that 2 flash screens are due to the failure of the driver board in the screen). Finally, the seller agrees to replace 6 sets, and the freight shall be borne by the seller.
The lesson is straightforward:The quantity counted during administrative signing is not equal to the quality of acceptance.If you run the pure color test on the spot, you can return 6 problem machines in 15 minutes, and there will be no subsequent disputes.
Daily use: several habits to extend the life of the monitor
- Don't wipe the screen directly with a damp cloth: Moisture seeping into the frame will cause water marks in the screen and circuit corrosion. Spray a dry soft cloth or special screen cleaner on the cloth and wipe it again.
- Brightness is not 100% for a long timeBacklight long-term full load will accelerate the attenuation (performance of yellow screen, brightness decline), daily 60-75% enough, life can be doubled.
- Do not turn off the power for a long time: Standby state backlight and power board is still working heat, especially in the humid environment in the south, long-term power supply board failure rate is significantly higher.
- Avoid displaying static images for a long timeIPS screen will also produce afterimage (image retention), monitor wall, kanban screen and other 7×24 scenes to open screensaver or carousel.
- Go back to Nantian and pay attention to dehumidification: Guangzhou February to April humidity 90%+, screen internal condensation will lead to stains and drive board corrosion, server room and office area during this time it is recommended to remove moisture.
