Symptoms: blue screen is not terrible, terrible is that you do not remember the code
The computer suddenly pops up a blue full screen interface, showing a crying face ":(" and a line of English capital code, and then automatically restarts-this is the blue screen (BSOD). Many people's first reaction is "computer is finished", in fact, blue screen is just Windows in protective shutdown, the machine is not broken, the key is that line of code. Blue screen flash does not matter, this article teaches you how to find it, and the 6 most common codes represent what.
Second, the cause analysis: where to see the blue screen code, why does the blue screen happen
How to get blue screen code:
- photograph. There is a line of all-capital English at the bottom of the blue screen interface (such as MEMORY_MANAGEMENT), and some versions also have numbers like 0x000001A. The phone takes the most stable photos, and the picture disappears after restarting.
- Event Viewer. Right click Start Menu → Event Viewer →Windows Log → System, look for the red error from BugCheck, which has the complete code.
- Blue screen frequently, too late to take pictures: Settings → System → About → Advanced System Settings → Startup and Fault Recovery → Settings, check "Write events to system log" and cancel "Automatic restart", next time blue screen will stop on the screen waiting for you to see.
The nature of blue screen: drive conflict, memory or hard drive hardware failure, system file damage, three reasons account for the vast majority. Software problems can be repaired by themselves, hardware problems need to be detected and located-so the following comparison table divides the countermeasures into "self can do" and "need to repair" two files.
III. Self-help steps: 6 high-frequency code comparison tables
| Blue screen code | common cause | what you can do | Conditions requiring maintenance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0x0000007E SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED | Driver incompatibility, common with graphics drivers, new drivers, or new hardware | Enter safe mode to uninstall the most recently installed driver and roll back the graphics driver | It still recurs after unloading, mostly hardware or deep drive problems |
| 0x000000D1 DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL | Driver accesses illegal memory address, mostly caused by driver | Uninstall recently installed drivers, runsfc /scannowrepair system files |
All drivers are official versions, still blue screen, check memory |
| MEMORY_MANAGEMENT | Memory failure, memory incompatibility, or overclocking instability | Cancel overclocking; run Windows memory diagnostic tool (start menu search can be), reinsert error or root by root test memory | Repeated error detection, need to replace the memory |
| IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL | Drive or memory address conflict, and 0xD1 is a close relative | Same as above: rollback drive, cancel overclocking, run memory diagnosis | With random crashes, priority is suspected of memory |
| CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED | System critical processes exit abnormally, common in system file corruption or hard drive bad sectors | be operated in sequencesfc /scannowsumDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth |
After repair, it still recurs. Check the health of the hard drive. |
| WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR | Hardware-level errors: CPU overclocking, voltage instability, or hardware damage | Enter BIOS to restore default settings, cancel overclocking, dust cleaning and dissipate heat | The default frequency is still reported, CPU/motherboard/memory need to be checked item by item |
General troubleshooting sequence (soft to hard):
- First recall what was installed before the blue screen: new drivers, new software, new hardware, first remove back.
- Run the command prompt as an administrator and execute in turn
sfc /scannowsumDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthRepair system files. - Run Windows memory diagnosis, there are errors to deal with memory first.
- Cancel all overclocking and BIOS reverts to default.
- The above is still frequent blue screen (more than twice a week), indicating that the fault is in the hardware layer, do not rely on reloading the system to try your luck.
4. When must I hire a professional
If any of the following occurs, send it directly for repair:
- Blue screen multiple times a day, code is not the same-typical hardware-level problems;
- blue screen hard drive lights flash, accompanied by stun, suspected hard drive bad sectors;
- blue screen after reinstalling the system--indicating that the problem is not in the system at all;
- WHEA errors occur repeatedly at the default frequency.
Blue screen troubleshooting experience is the most "positioning", we go to the store with memory testing, hard drive detection, replacement method to locate fault parts, usually on-site or half a day can be locked. V. Fee Reference
| Item | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| diagnosis and assessment | RMB 50–150 | Inspection at the store, we quote first, then repair |
| Drive conflicts, system file repair | RMB 80–150 | With sfc/DISM, Drive Backoff |
| OS Reinstall | RMB 150 | Back up your desktop and documents first |
| Memory replacement (8G DDR4 for example) | Manual RMB 80 + memory net price | Kingston 8G from about RMB 150 |
| Hard drive replacement + system migration | Manual RMB 100 + hard drive price | Blue screen is suitable for hard drive bad sectors |
The above is Guangzhou Panyu market in 2026, first test quote, confirm and then repair.
6. Real cases
In September 2024, a design company in Panyu sent 5 desktops. In recent one month, blue screen was continued for six times. The code was concentrated in MEMORY_MANAGEMENT and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. The customer first found outsourcing to reinstall the system, but it was useless._Reinstallation can only solve the software problem, and the blue screen will still be installed after reinstallation. We went to the site and tested each machine with memory diagnosis, and found that the second memory installed on this batch of machines was incompatible with the original memory particles. After replacing the memory modules of the same specification, all 5 machines returned to normal, with a total charge of RMB 1150 (including on-site, detection, replacement and burn-in test verification). The blue screen dragged on for a month, but in fact, the problem could be solved in half a day.
