Enterprise Network Planning Pit-Avoidance Guide: Cabling and Wireless Coverage Doorways
15 years of engineer experience summary, help you avoid detours
First, network engineering is not as simple as "pulling a few network cables"
Many enterprises think that network engineering is "wiring + installation routing", the result is frequent drop after check-in, slow network speed, CCTV video stutter, rework cost far more than the original specification input. A qualified enterprise network, from survey, topology design, wiring specification to optimization acceptance, is a system engineering. The more detailed the early planning is, the more worry about the later operation and maintenance. This is a truth repeatedly verified by 15 years of engineering practice.
II. Structured Cabling: Concealed projects are most likely to be cut corners
Cable buried in the wall, bridge, is a typical "hidden project", but also the most prone to problems, the most difficult to rework links. When wiring, be sure to pay close attention to these points:
- With the wire:At least five kinds of super Gigabit scenarios, recommended six kinds of lines. Poor copper clad aluminum short-term can pass, long-term inevitable packet loss, speed limit.
- Strong ELV separation:Network cable and power line, power cable tray to maintain a distance, to avoid electromagnetic interference caused by packet loss and CCTV image noise.
- Standard routing and labeling:Horizontal and vertical, tied neatly, and labeled at both ends. This step may seem laborious, but it is the lifeblood of future troubleshooting efficiency.
- Point by point test:Each information point should be tested and certified with professional instruments such as Fluke, rather than "being able to access the Internet."
⚠️ Buying Reminder:When quoting, if the other party is vague and refuses to promise "point-by-point testing and delivery of test reports", most of them will shrink in the hidden link. When accepting, be sure to get the point drawings, label comparison tables and test reports. These three materials determine whether you maintain the network in the next five years.
III. Wireless coverage: full signal does not mean good experience
"Everywhere is full" is just a facade, the real wireless experience depends on concurrency, roaming and interference:
- AP is not the more the better:Point density will cause co-frequency interference instead, so channel and power planning should be done.
- AC+AP is the enterprise solution:The home routing stack cannot be managed uniformly. In enterprise scenarios, an AC controller + AP architecture should be implemented to achieve seamless roaming.
- Site thermal map survey:If it is not accurate to estimate the points based on experience, it is necessary to measure the thermal distribution of the signal with professional tools and then determine the number of AP.
- Measured roaming and concurrency:When accepting, hold the laptop while walking and test, simulate the peak concurrent, and ensure that the mobile office does not drop the line.
IV. Monitoring and network convergence: one network to do many things
Today's enterprise projects tend to be more and more "a fiber optic network carrying office data + CCTV + IPTV", multiple coverage of a construction, both saving money and easy to unify management. When planning, the ELV system such as network, monitoring, access control, etc. is designed as a whole to avoid repeated excavation and repeated wiring, and the overall cost can be reduced by about 30%.
